BSU Announces Post UTME Date(See Details)

This is to inform all Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates who applied for admission into Benue State University, Makurdi, for the 2020/2021 Academic Session that, candidates who scored 180 points and above in the UTME are eligible to participate in the Post UTME exercise of the University.  Candidates are to pay a non-refundable Post-UTME registration fee of two thousand naira (N2,000.00) only and register for the admission screening exercise B.  How To Apply 1. Thunder strike kills family of three in Benue community

Thunder strike has killed a family of three near Tarau Gwer local government area in Benue state on Saturday night . An eye witness Peter kwembe told The Nation that after heavy rainfall on Saturday there was a thunder strike which hit the thatch house which the family slept and killing them on the spot. The death of the husband, wife and their five (5) year old son has thrown the entire community into mourning. Kwembe  described the incident as the first of its kind in the village.

COVID-19: Over 1,000 patients recover in Nigeria

Over 1,000 people have recovered from COVID-19 in Nigeria . As at this morning, there are 3,737 active cases. On Wednesday night, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control announced six new deaths and 184 new cases in 21 States and the FCT. However, a total of 111 recoveries were also recorded, bringing the total to 1,070. That number currently stands at 4,971 in 34 States and the FCT.

COVID-19: Govt issues warning as churches reopen, curfew lifted

Niger Republic has announced the end of a night-time curfew on the capital Niamey and reopening of places of worship . The churches and religious gatherings were closed since late March as part of measures to contain the coronavirus (Covid-19). The government, however, decided to reopen churches after consultation with the COVID-19 expert committee. The statement read in part: “The government, after receiving proposals from religious leaders and after consultation with the Covid-19 experts’ committee, and in the light of the favourable trend of Covid-19 disease development, has decided to reopen places of worship as of Wednesday.” The religious leaders have been required to disinfect places of worship before prayers, observe strict wearing of mask and maintaining physical distancing of at least a metre. COVID-19: UK govt gives Premier League date to resume season

The United Kingdom (UK) government has given the English Premier League (EPL) the green light to restart the season from June 1, according to Sky Sports . Premier League is currently suspended indefinitely, with nine matches remaining due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Premier League and all other top-level sports in England could restart behind closed doors next month without spectators to attend venues until a coronavirus vaccine is found. The UK government’s road map for exiting the lockdown imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19 was published on Monday, setting out the conditions under which various cultural and sporting events can be safely carried out in the country. Step two of the road map, which can’t begin any earlier than June 1, includes: “permitting cultural and sporting events to take place behind-closed-doors for broadcast while avoiding the risk of large-scale social contact.”

A Married Woman Dies After Engaging In Marathon S*x With A Priest

A priest, identified as Father Abel Mwelwa, has been suspended in Lusaka, Zambia, after his married lover allegedly died during a marathon sex in his house . Information gathered revealed that the deceased, who was a member of the Catholic Women’s League from St Maurice Catholic Church, had lied to her husband that she was going to a funeral but ended up with the priest. Ighalo’s future at Man Utd in doubt as Shanghai Shenhua makes fresh demand

Manchester United could be without Odion Ighalo for their remaining fixtures, as Shanghai Shenhua expects him to return from his loan spell by July, according to Sky Sports . Ighalo has impressed in his short spell at Old Trafford since joining the club on loan in January, but his deal expires next month. United was optimistic about extending that date, to allow for the delay in completing the Premier League season due to COVID-19. However, Ighalo could now be summoned back at the end of his loan deal, as Shenhua want him ready for the start of the Chinese Super League season. Madagascar Herbal Cure For COVID-19 Sent To Nigeria

Nigeria is set to receive the herbal product which the leaders of Madagascar claim cures COVID-19 . The herbal product is said to be in Equitorial Guinea from where it will be airlifted to Abuja after members of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 were made aware of the offer from Madagascar. The drug is however requested to be subjected to further analysis with pressure placed on the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD) and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). The Nation quoted a source: “The consignments of the drug are being distributed to different countries in Africa based on zonal grouping.  We have been told that Nigeria’s consignment is in Equatorial Guinea from where it will be airlifted to Abuja. “When the herbal drink is brought into the country, we will know the next step. But some medical and scientific organisations are pressurising that the drug be subjected to clinical trial.

All Universities Remain Closed – Federal Government Warns Vice Chancellors

The Federal Ministry of Education has ordered vice chancellors to maintain the closure of federal, state and private universities in order to keep students and university communities safe from coronavirus. The National Universities Commission gave the directive through a circular by the Director, Directorate of the Executive Secretary’s Office, Chris Maiyaki. The circular read: “Vice chancellors will please recall that following the ministerial directive of March 19, 2020, the NUC issued two circulars on Friday, March 20, to convey approval for the closure of institutions for a period of one month effective from Monday, March 23. “The Federal Ministry of Education has subsequently directed on Friday, March 8, that all schools remain closed as the Federal Government is closely monitoring developments on the containment of the COVID-19. COVID-19: South Africa records 595 new cases in 24 hours, tops Nigeria

South Africa, on Sunday, recorded 595 new cases in 24 hours, the Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize confirmed . The minister giving daily updates on Sunday night expressed concern over increase new cases in the country. He noted that 84 percent of total new cases are from the Western Cape and Eastern Cape combined. South Africa has recorded 10,015, Coronavirus cases so far since the outbreak, NAN reports. The deaths recorded also rose to 194 as eight more deaths were recorded from the Western Cape, the Eastern Cape, and Gauteng. The Western Cape Province leads with 5,168 cases, followed by Gauteng Province with 1,952, KwaZulu-Natal Province with 1,353 and the Eastern Cape Province with 1,218. “Regrettably, we report eight more COVID-19 related deaths, which sums up to 194 death toll. “We are, however, encouraged by the number of recoveries, which was 4,173 as of May 9,” Mkhize said.
