Chelsea have completed the signing of Olivier Giroud from Arsenal for an estimated £18 million. The France international will join the Blues on an 18-month contract with an option to extend it for another year after the two clubs agreed a deal on Wednesday. The move has now been made official after Arsenal confirmed the signing of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund, who have just loaned Michy Batshuayi from Chelsea. A triangle of transfers developed between the three clubs over the last few days of the January transfer window, with each move seemingly hindering on one of the others going through. While Dortmund wanted Batshuayi as Aubameyang’s replacement, Chelsea were reluctant to let him go without bringing in another alternative to Alvaro Morata and turned to Giroud after failing to land Edin Dzeko from Roma. Manchester United have extended Juan Mata’s stay at Old Trafford for  an extra year until June 2019 after triggering a clause in his contract. Mata’s deal was due to expire at end of the season, but the Red Devils have opted to activate their option to prolong his stay by a further 12 months. United manager Jose Mourinho, who sold Mata to United from Chelsea in January 2014, talked up the attacking midfielder’s importance to his plans. “Mata is very important. When I arrived one-and-a-half years ago, [they said], ‘Mata is in trouble, in trouble, in trouble’, and now he’s getting an extension of one more year,” Mourinho told a news conference ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Wembley to face Tottenham. “An important player for me; important player for the club; important player for the other players.”

A teenager from Brazil has said she has put her virginity up for auction – with bids starting at about £264,000. The National Chairman of Fulbe (Fulani) Development Association of Nigeria (FULDAN), Malam Ahmad Usman Bello, has declared that they cannot be defeated by any ethnic group in the country. Bello made the remarks while speaking with Saturday Tribune in Kano, amid the widespread outcry against the murderous activities of Fulani herdsmen in Benue, Plateau and Taraba states and many other parts of the country. “Take it or not, Fulanis have remained unbeatable; no ethnic group can fight us face to face. Any ethnic group that fights us will learn a bitter lesson,” he said. He, however, said it was in the interest of the Fulani, which he described as “the largest ethnic group in Nigeria and, indeed, West Africa,” for all Nigerians to continue to live in peace and unity. It seems the first eviction in the Big Brother Naija 3 Show just occurred now, 6 housemates who couldn’t get beds have been sent packing. The housemates who were eating, were called into the sitting room by Big Brother, who announced that the housemates who picked numbers without a corresponding bed space should leave.
