BSU ASUU STRIKE: Benue State University Management Issues Statement

BSU ASUU STRIKE: Benue State University Management Issues Statement

The Management of Benue State University has released a statement concerning the ongoing impasse between striking unions in the institution and the government.

   The statement reads:
“ASUU yesterday decided to bury the hatchet by suspending her almost 3 months old strike following deliberation on the proposal submitted to her by the Benue state government.

“The union accepted the proposal to pay 3 months arrears of the EAA along with June salary made by the gov’t and asked that other issues be looked upon.

“The strike action is one issue that has elicited diverse action and reactions from students same with the news of the it’s suspension today, however the synopsis of the matter is…

“1. Both parties; ASUU and the government would have to pen down signatures so the purported proposal becomes an official document; an agreement so they can always refer to.

“2. The government would’ve to meet her end of the bargain by paying the said June salary and 3 months arrears of the ‘Academic Earned Allowances’ before an official statement of a call off will be made.

“3. The senate would have to meet and restructure the calendar before an official resumption date will be communicated, however  these issues are very much possible to be put to rest within this week with a resumption date following suit which will likely be next Monday if those issues are addressed as analysed.”

The BSU chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have been on strike for about three months.
