'MBAPPE SHOULD SHUN REAL MADRID AND MAN UTD' - MONACO FORWARD TOLD TO AVOID MARTIAL MISTAKE
Former France international David Ginola feels the youngster would benefit from another season at Monaco, but admits that he faces a tough choice
Kylian Mbappe should ignore interest from Real Madrid and the Premier League and spend another year at Monaco, says David Ginola.
The teenage forward has become one of the most sought-after talents in world football on the back of a breakout season in 2016-17 which delivered 26 goals and senior international recognition with France.
The likes of Madrid, Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United are now all said to be keen, with talk of £100 million valuations doing little to curb their interest.
Ginola, though, fears that it could be too soon for the 18-year-old to be making such a leap, with Anthony Martial having shown in the past that big-money moves are not always the best option .
The former France international told talkSPORT: “Mbappe has everything, already, at a very young age.
“He was very consistent for Monaco last season, and that was probably the biggest surprise. We knew of his quality, but he was surprising us every week with technique, his skill, his power and his pace…and I think the best is yet to come.
“There have been instances in the past with Anthony Martial moving to Manchester United and honestly, staying another season at Monaco will probably be a good thing for him, just for him to settle at the top level a little bit more.
“Sometimes you see young players leaving their home to go somewhere bigger and they didn’t succeed because it’s too complicated and it’s too much pressure.
“Kylian Mbappe seems to have the right people around him. His dad and his agent are good advisors, so I guess he’s going to make the right choice.
“But the thing is, when there is so much money on the table it’s not only about you, the club would be thinking twice about it.
“Apparently they want to put a lot of money on the table to keep him for another year, so we have to wait and see.
“We’re talking about Monaco. It’s a great city to live, but it’s not the biggest stadium around and a player like him would have interest in playing for Real Madrid or in the Premier League – for big clubs in big competitions.
“Monaco won the league this season and they did great in the Champions League, but Mbappe has so many opportunities in front of him.”
