Post-Utme: 13,500 candidates jostle for 3,500 slots in Futa

The Federal University of Technology, Akure, has said that it will only admit 3,500 out of the 13,500 candidates that sat for the Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculations Examination in the institution.
The school also declared that its admission for the 2017/2018 academic session would be strictly based on merit.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) and Chairman, University Admissions Committee, Prof. Olatunde Arayela, stated this on Monday while speaking on the ongoing Post-UTME Screening Exercise which took place on the campus of the institution from October 5 to 10, 2017.
He said, “A total number of 13,500 candidates registered for the screening while the university Senate has decided that it will admit only 3,500 candidates for the academic session.”
“The university, under the leadership of Prof. Joseph Fuwape, has put in place all necessary measures to ensure an efficient and hitch-free screening exercise.”
“Each programme will have its own cut-off mark which will be determined by its carrying capacity and only those who meet the cut-off point will be offered admission.”
Arayela noted that during the policy meeting organised by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board,  involving all heads of tertiary institutions in Nigeria and their registrars, a Central Admission Process System was introduced to ensure that only qualified candidates were given admission based on merit. He maintained that FUTA would adhere strictly to the CAPS paradigm.
Speaking on the National Universities Commission’s decision to stop admission into management courses for federal universities of technology and agriculture in Nigeria, the don explained that the affected students had been duly notified about the development.
“A committee has been set up by the Committee of Vice-Chancellors to look into the issue,” he explained.
